Study: Young Germans in temporary employment

Sometimes temporary workers tick differently than other employees. For example, they are more satisfied with family cohesion, a study reveals

For seven years, the portal has been investigating www.jungedeutsche.de is conducting an ongoing study of the living and working environments of the younger generation in Germany. The target group of under-40s can fill in a questionnaire online at any time. In addition, the youth researcher Simon Schnetzer and his nationwide team in individual and group interviews.

For the Federal Employers' Association of Personnel Service Providers (BAP), the youth researchers conducted a separate analysis between June 19 and August 19, 2017, in which the responses of temporary workers were contrasted with the responses of the other participants in the representative study. This provided some interesting findings.

Family cohesion is important

For every other study participant (67 %), it is Family the most important values in life. Still 55 % of respondents also find that their lives are particularly shaped by family cohesion. Among the Temporary employeesare a total of 85 % of respondents "Satisfied with the cohesion in the family", which is again significantly more people than in the population of respondents, where only 76 % were satisfied with the cohesion in the family.

WhatsApp most popular communication channel

96 % of temporary workers surveyed between 18 and 39 use WhatsApp as a communication channel. This means that this messenger app is still well ahead of the communication channels E-mail (84 %), Phone (76 %) and Facebook (72 %), but all of them are also highly rated. "Only" 42 % of the temporary employees surveyed use the career platform XING. However, this is still five times more than among the participants in the representative survey, where only 7 % stated that they used XING.

Work-life balance

Work-life balance, a secure workplace, and flexible scheduling are the Highly popular with temporary employees. Every second respondent from temporary employment finds these topics important. It is interesting to note that "a good work-life balance" is mentioned 10 % more often than in the representative survey, and "flexible time management" even 16 % more often.

Job search online and among acquaintances

Temporary employees look for their jobs online, even more so than other employees. 71 % use job portals, 53 % search for new jobs in the familiar social networks. Recommendations by friends & acquaintances are also very important for many (60 %).
